Privacy policy
Your films are yours.
The short version. Undeveloped has no account, no sign-up, no analytics, no advertising, no tracking and no third-party SDKs. I run no servers for the app, so I never receive your films, your sound, your name or anything else you make in it. Your camera and microphone are processed on your iPhone. Films are stored on your iPhone. The only time anything leaves your phone is when you choose iCloud features (backup of developed films, which you can switch off, and shared rolls) or when you save or share a film yourself.
Who makes it
Undeveloped: Super 8 Camera ("Undeveloped", "the app", "I") is made by one person, Daniel Ionashku. For any privacy question, write to daniel.ionashku@gmail.com.
What the app uses on your iPhone
| Permission | Why | Where it goes |
|---|---|---|
| Camera | To film your moments and show the live viewfinder. | Processed on your iPhone. Recorded moments are saved inside the app on your phone. |
| Microphone (optional) | To record sound with your films. If you say no, the app still works and your films are silent. | Recorded with the moment, on your iPhone. |
| Photos, add only | To save a developed film to your photo library, only when you tap Save. | Your photo library. The app can't read or browse your photos. |
| iCloud (CloudKit) | For iCloud Backup of developed films and for shared rolls. | Your own iCloud account, run by Apple. See below. |
| Notifications (silent) | Background pushes from iCloud so a shared roll can sync when a friend films. The app shows no notification banners and sends no marketing. | Delivered by Apple's push service. |
Undeveloped does not use your location, contacts, advertising identifier or any other data on your phone.
Where your films live
On your iPhone
Every moment you shoot and every developed film is stored in the app's private storage on your iPhone. They are included in your iPhone's own device backups according to your iPhone's backup settings. Deleting the app deletes these files.
iCloud Backup of developed films
With iCloud Backup on (it's on by default; you can switch it off in the app's settings at any time), each developed film is copied to the private database of your own iCloud account, with its title, date and running time, so a new phone or a reinstall gets your films back. Moments from a roll that hasn't developed yet are not backed up. This copy lives in your iCloud, is governed by Apple's privacy policy, and counts toward your iCloud storage. I can't see or access it. You can remove it in iOS Settings > [your name] > iCloud > Storage.
Shared rolls
When you start a shared roll, the app creates a shared space in the starter's iCloud and an invite link. It is an open link: anyone who has it can join, so only send it to the people you mean to. Once all the seats are taken, anyone else who opens it can watch but not film. Inside the shared space, everyone on the roll can access:
- the roll's name, number of people and the film look chosen for it;
- each member's display name (the name you type in the app; it can be a nickname), when they joined, how much film they've used and whether they've finished;
- each member's moments: the video (and sound, if recorded), when it was shot, its length and frame rate.
Moments upload while the roll is being shot but stay hidden in the app until the roll develops, when each phone puts the film together itself. Group data uses Apple's iCloud sharing, counts toward the starter's iCloud storage, and is never sent to me.
What I collect
Nothing. Undeveloped contains no analytics, crash-reporting, advertising or attribution SDKs, makes no network requests to me or any third party, and has no account system. I don't sell, rent or share data because I never have it.
If you have chosen in iOS settings to share analytics with app developers, Apple may give me aggregated, anonymous usage and crash statistics through App Store Connect. Apple controls that setting and that data. Purchases are handled by Apple; I don't receive your payment details.
Sharing films
When you save a film to Photos or send it with the share sheet, it goes where you send it, and that app's or service's privacy terms apply from then on.
This website
This site uses no cookies, analytics or trackers, and loads no third-party scripts or fonts. It is hosted on Google's Firebase Hosting, which processes standard request logs (such as IP address and browser type) to serve and secure the site.
Children
Undeveloped is not directed to children under 13 and I don't knowingly collect information from anyone, at any age.
Your choices and rights
- Turn off camera, microphone or Photos access any time in iOS Settings > Undeveloped.
- Turn off iCloud Backup in the app's settings, and delete backed-up films from iCloud storage settings.
- Delete the app to delete everything stored on your phone.
Because I hold no personal data about you, there is nothing for me to access, correct or delete on my side. If you have a question about your rights under laws like the GDPR or CCPA, write to me and I'll help.
Changes
If this policy changes, I'll update this page and the date at the top. If a change ever meant collecting data, it would be explained in the app first.
